Kylie + Mitchell’s Private VT Elopement

June 23, 2020

Congratulations to Kylie and Mitchell, who postponed their party to 2021 but eloped this past Saturday.

During these times, everyone in the world is deciding what is important to them. Who they miss, what they need, how to simply get by with less and get more joy from what they already have. I think it is a gorgeous testament to love that Kylie and Mitchell chose to elope during these times.

“My wedding dress didn’t fit,” Kylie explained. “I ordered this one and I’ll just save the dress for next year’s wedding.” Kylie and Mitchell are expecting their second baby, and Kylie was absolutely glowing for her elopement. And Mitchell… well, he was one of my favorite people to photograph. He was extremely emotive, and overjoyed to see his bride walking down the aisle. The pictures of Mitchell’s reaction to seeing Kylie really speak for themselves. (And let’s be honest, that’s the reaction that everyone dream of on their wedding day.)

Kylie and Mitchell met about 5 years ago, and Kylie moved from VT to the Chicago area to be with him. They had their first daughter, and Mitchell proposed to Kylie shortly after. These two STILL have that special spark, and it was an honor to photograph their unique, sentimental day. (I’m pretty sure every single one of us was crying.)

One of my favorite elements of the day was the portrait detail on Kylie’s gorgeous peony bouquet. The portraits in the chain frame are of her brother and father, who were attending the elopement in spirit. We later got a photo of Kylie at her brother’s memorial site on her parents’ property in Rutland. Another favorite element was the beautiful archway that Kylie’s parents constructed. Her dad simply said, “we found some sticks in the back woods and put it together.” It was STUNNING and I speak for many brides when I say that these two should probably start custom-making these for other couples.

Thank you, Mitchell and Kylie, for inviting me to photograph your special day. It was gorgeous, and I know it wasn’t what you had imaged. But we are all ready to party our pants off next year with you two!!
