Rachel and Mike’s Lake Champlain Wedding

July 20, 2020

Congratulations to Rachel and Mike, who got married on Friday overlooking the lake with their best friends and family!

Firstly, let me just try to convey how thoughtful Mike and Rachel are. At the very beginning of the pandemic, Rachel reached out to me because she was making homemade masks and wondered if she could drop some off for me. These two go out of their way to make sure others are happy, and I was glad to finally repay them and make sure their photos were as memorable and special as possible.

Mike could not stop smiling as he was waiting for Rachel, and when she arrived at the ceremony location for their first look, and she could not stand still. “I’m shaking,” she said. The nerves she had felt from planning two COVID-era weddings and finally having her big day compounded, and she couldn’t wait to see her groom. Their first look was emotional, and they were equally in awe of the other.

We were ahead of schedule, but they had been waiting all summer to get married. “Why wait any longer?” they said. They started the ceremony early and just then, the sun hid behind some clouds, beautifully diffusing light onto them as if on cue. We thought it would storm that day, but it was actually perfect.

Their ceremony was emotional, and they recorded it for friends and family who could not be there because of the virus. And in true Rachel and Mike fashion, they put a personal and humorous twist on the idea of a welcome bag. They hand-made their five guests and each vendor a welcome bag containing a homemade mask, a beautiful welcome note, and a packet of Emergen-C. I loved this idea!

Later in the day, Rachel and Mike wanted a photo in front of the South End’s City Market moose (“We just really love moose,” Mike said) and got a last family photo with masks at Hotel Vermont, where Rachel and Mike had their reception. Their family was lovely to work with, and made Rachel and Mike’s day extremely special for them.

Thank you so much, you two! You are so special to me, and I wish you a lifetime of silliness, spontaneity, love, and adventure.
