A Downtown Burlington, VT Engagement Session

 

As a Vermont engagement photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless love stories against the picturesque backdrop of this beautiful state. However, when the weather outside is not cooperating, I love to get creative. And Nicolette and Jon’s vision absolutely matched mine.

We met at the Burlington institution the Wallflower Collective. This bar, run by a gang of hip millennial that I for one wish to befriend, has gorgeous greenery, velvet couches, and eclectic art. The owners were incredibly welcoming and even let us arrive before the bar opened to take some photos.

Nicolette and Jon’s first date was at a bar, and they remember sitting together, drinking for hours. I asked them to think about their first date, and reliving this beautiful shared memory was a fun way to start our session.

There is something truly special about Nicolette and Jon. Perhaps it was the way they effortlessly melted into each other’s arms, or the way their laughter came easily without my intervention. I felt like I’d worked with them before, and they were eager to do whatever it was that came into my mind. I felt creatively invigorated. Plus, I mean, they have amazing style. Nicolette’s ring made my jaw drop.

The direct-flash technique that Nicolette had mentioned wanting added an extra layer of drama and allure to the photos, perfectly complementing the vibey atmosphere of Wallflower Collective. Each shot captured the intimacy and connection shared between Nicolette and Jon, who are getting married this December at the gorgeous Mountaintop Inn and Resort.

After we’d have a few pints at the bar, we wandered to the Burlington waterfront for some quick outdoor photos. The day was cloudy but beautiful, and we had a great time taking candid images along the windy shore of Lake Champlain.
