Vermont Microwedding | Kelsey & James

May 10, 2021

CONGRATULATIONS to Kelsey and James, who texted me last month asking if I was busy on May 8th. Within just five weeks with their help of their families, they pulled together an intimate, elegant Vermont microwedding under the stars at Kelsey’s mother’s house.

Kelsey and James waited until Vermont’s wedding restrictions loosened, and until they felt comfortable hosting their microwedding. Kelsey designed the invitations, all of the signage, the tablescapes, and their arbor. Kelsey’s mom and stepdad were up at 5am putting together the tents for the day. Kelsey’s family designed the bar area, and a long-term family friend married them. The best part of this wedding was seeing the love and excitement that each family member poured into the day. Kelsey’s mom told her, “Just because you planned this wedding in 1 month doesn’t mean you don’t get to do it right.” The day was BEAUTIFUL, and despite the dreary forecast, the rain held off just for them.

Kelsey and I have been best friends since we were four years old. Some of my earliest childhood memories include long, rambling conversations on the phone (what would two 5 year-olds have so much to converse about?), picking gum out of her long hair, and exploring our entry into womanhood with each other’s support and cheerleading. I have a shoebox full of letters we exchanged for two decades.

Since we were kids, she has always said that her husband would be tall with red hair. And I’ll be damned if she didn’t end up marrying James, the tallest redhead I know.

I adore Kelsey, and of course feel protective over her. No man could ever be good enough for her; no guy could ever match her intelligence, quick wit, and whimsy. But when she started dating James, I saw her amazing qualities amplify and expand into new territories. She discovered that she loves travel, being a dog mom, and camping. Kelsey and James widen each other’s worldview. They are amazing individually but together, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Kelsey asked me to be her Maid of Honor. The day of the wedding, I put on my MOH dress and then strapped right into my camera gear. It was an honor to show my best friend my love through my art.

Kelsey and James, I have so much love for you! I hope you cherish your Vermont microwedding photos as much as I do. XO!
