A Snowy Stowe Elopement: Alayna and Kevin’s Nordic Ski Adventure

Stowe, Vermont, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and charming Vermont ambiance, was the perfect setting for Alayna and Kevin’s unique winter elopement. They started their day skiing at Von Trapp, which held a special place in their hearts as the first place they skied together.

Morning Adventure: Nordic Skiing in a Blizzard

The day began with a thrilling nordic skiing expedition amidst a classic Vermont blizzard. While driving to Von Trapp, whiteout conditions increased and I was wondering how the heck I was going to shoot in this weather. While I made a plan, Kevin and Alayna kept warm inside Von Trapp’s nordic center’s cozy fireplace. The swirling snow seemed to come down sideways, and magically, it lightened a bit when we got outside.

Alayna’s veil with her and Kevin’s Icelandic wool sweaters and ski goggles were ICONIC. It was exhilarating to photograph them in their element. They were graceful on their skis, stopping to kiss and pose along the many trails.

For some images, I used a softer focus to capture the warm romance of the moment. I loved the snowflakes in Alayna’s hair and Kevin’s beard.

Intimate Ceremony at a Private Estate

Following their invigorating morning, Alayna and Kevin retreated to a secluded private estate in Stowe for their intimate ceremony. The estate’s modern but farmhouse-inspired charm and panoramic views of snow-covered landscapes provided a romantic setting for their vows. Their immediate families gathered there for the weekend. I loved that they all stayed under one roof. How many families have done that, since the kids started leaving the house?

Seeing their families care so much about the day was lovely. Alayna’s mother lovingly laid out the main dinner table with candles and flowers, and after she helped Alayna get into her dress. Kevin’s mother pinned his boutonnière and teared up. The care they put into traveling and helping with the day made their connections really beautiful to photograph.

Alayna and Kevin booked Susana’s Catering, and they did an incredible job being discreet in close quarters while creating hors d’oeuvres and mains that looked stunning. The smell of food cooking made the large house cozy and warm.

Typically in my blog posts, I discuss my favorite part of the day. But with this micro wedding, I can’t decide. The epic morning conditions and subsequent adorable snow shoot is equally as gorgeous as the intimate and more formal part II. I said out loud, I can’t believe this is my JOB.

Alayna’s gorgeous bouquet by Bramble and Bloom was a highlight, as well as the slow, easy-going way that the couple and their families approached the day. It was creatively inspiring, and seeing Alayna and Kevin so happy was gorgeous.
