A Romantic Vermont Wedding at the West Mountain Inn

Danielle and Charlie’s fall wedding was perfect in every way. On the drive, I thought I might be lost, as small Vermont town centers dissolved into long stretches of mountain roads. Next to the Battenkill River, a dirt road lead to a stately iron gate that marked the entrance of the West Mountain Inn. The fall foliage was scant on the drive due to the summer’s draught, but it was glorious there. Maybe that was because of the proximity to the river, or maybe because the West Mountain Inn is just a magical place.

Danielle and Charlie drove up from Boston with their family and friends, and they all stayed at the Inn together. It created a destination reunion all weekend. I loved how genuinely happy and excited their friends were to celebrate their love.

Some favorite parts of the wedding were the calm, easy demeanor this couple had. They wanted to feel present, to not take too much extra time taking photos, and to prioritize candids and real moments. They also TORE. IT. UP. on the dance floor (the bride even did karaoke) and I accidentally stayed a half hour late because I was so obsessed with photographing the reception scenes. (Shout out to Bucky from Supersounds Entertainment, who accommodated karaoke, crowd pleasers, and then more trendy fun songs toward the end of the night.) Danielle and Charlie had matching New Balance sneakers, a Ben and Jerry’s cart, and custom sunglasses for each guest. So much thought and effort was put into their guest experience. I adored seeing that come to fruition.

The West Mountain Inn was ideal for this party because we had separate areas for each part of the day, but they were all next to each other. This means that guests are never interrupted by chairs/furniture moving, and the party naturally flows from one area to another (usually within 5 feet of a bar). The ceremony overlooked the gorgeous Vermont mountains to the west, and the tented cocktail hour overlooked a different mountain view to the north. The reception barn had a gorgeous patio that was perfect if guests needed a break from the reception, and the barn itself was spacious and quintessentially Vermont.
